Practical

Our practice is based in a purpose built therapy room near the centre of Bristol, 10-15 mins walk from Cabot Circus. The area is well served by local buses, and a 20 minute walk from Temple Meads train station.

The fee is £40 for one session, or £70 for two sessions if booked together.

All types of therapy we use are designed for short interventions, often only 2 or 3 sessions. The first session will usually include an initial discussion about what outcomes you are aiming to achieve and to make sure you have a clear understanding of the approach. Sessions are an hour long. We can discuss days/times, but usually see clients in the evenings after office hours.

We work with adult clients, but will consider older teenagers as clients on a case-by-case basis. Both the teenager client and their parent/guardian need to agree in such cases.

What is discussed in therapy is strictly confidential, but under UK law there are certain required rare exceptions, such as the need to prevent harm to vulnerable people. A case may also be anonymously discussed with another therapist providing supervision/mentoring.

Before the therapy

If you are interested in therapy, you can contact us by phone, email or using the contact form here. We will then have some further contact by email or phone to make sure everything is in place before accepting you as a client. For example, certain medical conditions can make hypnotherapy unsuitable.

After this we will agree a date for a first session and send you a link to an online form to complete. This is to capture general details about you and your health; doing this beforehand saves us time when we meet in person. Please complete this at least 48 hours before the first session. We will also send payment details and detailed instructions on how to find us.

On the day

Please arrive on time as the location does not having a waiting area, and allow for time to park or navigate public transport as needed.

Please refrain from drinking alcohol or taking any other non-medical drugs on the day of therapy. Please also refrain from or keep to a minimum your caffeine intake (in tea, coffee and fizzy drinks) on the day of the therapy.

If you would like to you are welcome to make your own audio recording of the session (for example, using a smartphone). Please be ready do this if you plan on doing so, as we don’t want to use up time dealing with the technology. This allows you to listen to the session again. The recording is for your personal use, so you are not to distribute it and put it online. (formally, the copyright is owned by therapist)

In the same way, the session may be recorded by the therapist. This will be kept securely and confidentially, along with other records. This is used to keep notes and record progress.

If you are not able to make the agreed date/time we are not able to offer refunds, but if you contact us at least 24 hours before we will be able to rearrange the time/date at no charge.

At the end of the session

At the end of the session, we will discuss whether another session or two is needed, and if so can discuss dates.

In some forms of therapy there may be some exercises given to you to carry out outside the sessions.

If you are driving afterwards, we advise you to take a brisk 5 minute walk after the session, to ensure you are fully refreshed and alert.
